On Wednesday 22nd January, a team from the Environment Agency came to Foxhole to remove the fish stocks. Water levels and water quality have dropped to levels that present a risk to their health following the discovery of significant leaks in the dam.

A long days work followed, at the end of which the vast majority of the fish had been captured using netting and electro-fishing and safely transported to another pond on the site, where they will remain until conditions are safe for their return.

The club would like to thank everyone involved in this work. In particular, the EA and our fishery officer Lee Waller did all the heavy lifting in organizing and carrying out this work to a very tight timescale. We are also grateful to Holmbush Farm for facilitating the work and allowing us to relocate the fish to another pond on their land.

Moving forwards, now that the fish have been removed, work can be undertaken to repair the leaks in the dam. Volunteers from the club have already been carrying out preparatory work to clear vegetation and trees from around the base of the dam, and moving forwards we expect that work to carry out repairs to the dam will soon progress.

Finally, thanks to members of the club for their continuing patience whilst the venue remains closed. The club knows that Foxhole is one of the most popular waters on our books, and will do everything possible to get it open again to anglers as soon as we can.

UPDATE: 01/09/2025- Significant work has now been completed repairing the dam and fixing the leaks, installing new swims, clearing overburden and as we head into autumn there will be further work parties arranged to finish off.

The Pond now needs to fill back up with water and settle for a good few months before we can consider putting the fish back in, so as it stand’s we do not see the pond re-opening until next year and we will keep members updated as to when.
