Autumn Series Report – Match 1 Foxhole – 15th October

A bright but cold morning welcomed the ten participants to Foxhole for the first match of the HDAA Autumn series.

With the orange glow of the rising sun and mist rolling across the flat calm water it filled every angler with the optimism of a good day and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

The draw saw the ten anglers spread around the lake with some anglers enjoying a day of warm autumn sunshine and others in the cold shade however this did not effect the fishing in anyway as weights in excess of 30lbs came from around the lake.

Some anglers targeted the silver fish from the ten o’clock whistle sounding the “all in” and others the carp, bites were had almost immediately and landing nets were soon sliding under their quarry, unhooked and gently slipped into their keepnets.

It was great to see the different approaches anglers were using, float fishing with a Waggler, method feeder, bomb & pellet or long pole were all catching fish which made the five hour match fly by and it was soon time for the weigh in.

The results…

In first place was Lee Waller (Peg 9) with a very impressive 57lbs 3oz.

In second place, Andy Mayhew with 39lbs 1oz from the far end of the lake (peg 11).

Third place with 33lbs 2oz was Graham Boylett from peg 8 with a variety of tactics.

The ten anglers weighed a total of 234lbs which goes to show what a fabulous lake it is, especially as it was the coldest morning of the season so far.

A special mention to John and Wayne Hayes who both weighed in over eight pounds of silver fish which added to their carp nets giving totals of 31lbs and 22lbs 9oz respectively, impressive going.

Also a shout out to one of our junior members, Cameron who fished his first match, well done, you did yourself proud & hope you learnt from the experience & come fish more of our matches.

Also a huge thanks to Barry & Dawn Clark who were kind enough to come and support the match and help with the weigh in & to Oliver Wright who came to meet everyone & handed out the chocolates to the members, yummy!

It was lovely to see so many of our clubs members & officials enjoying the day out & either catching up with friends or making new ones, it was the epitome of club match fishing and I for one certainly can’t wait for the next match in the series which takes place at Roosthole on the 19th November.
